RIP TO THIS INNOVATORS
In the vibrant tapestry of hip-hop's origins, Chuck Chuck City stands as a testament to the genre's grassroots evolution. Emerging from the Bronxdale Housing Projects in the 1970s, this crew, led by the legendary Disco King Mario, played a pivotal role in shaping the sound and culture of early hip-hop.Disco King Mario was renowned for his powerful sound systems and electrifying block parties, which became communal gatherings that celebrated music, dance, and unity. These events were more than just entertainment; they were foundational experiences that nurtured future hip-hop luminaries. Notably, Afrika Bambaataa, a central figure in hip-hop history, began his journey under Mario's mentorship, even borrowing equipment for his initial performances. The influence of Chuck Chuck City extended beyond music. Their events fostered a sense of community and provided a platform for expression during a time of social and economic challenges in the Bronx. The crew's legacy is celebrated through annual reunions and memorials, ensuring that the contributions of Disco King Mario and his team are remembered and honored.
He was Mario's right hand man who was never mentioned. He was well known in the early hiphop industry, he spinned records along side Disco King Mario, DJ Desi Dez, DJ Ronni Ron, and DJ Sinbad. They were the Pillars of the Bronx Community.
He was a trailblazer who passed away recently but will always be remembered RIP.
When Mario moved to Bronxdale Housing Projects, she took him in. She nurtured and supported his early DJ career. She was the aunt behind the man.
And she was the one who helped "Queen Anita" put together the 1st Disco King Mario event in 1994.
The original Disco King Mario event planner! She started this whole thing in 1994. The day after Mario died, she went to his Aunt Mae. The two put there heads together. She gave her footage and pictures and from there Zulu Queen Anita thew her first Parkside Plaza Event in the Boogie Down Bronx. To promote his legacy she promised his Aunt Mae to make him famous, and have people talking about his legacy and give him the RESPECT he deserved.
She did it for 10 years straight with the help of Afrika Bambaataa and Grand Master Caz from the Cold Crush Brothers, DJ Toni Tone, Grand Wizard Theodore, DJ Love from Bronxdale Projects, late Big Sis Sarita, and as well as some of her Zulu malikas. MC Sundance of the Hiphop Group The Jazzy 5 MCs helped contribute to her last one in 2003, but due to her being a cancer survivor at time she had to stop doing future events until now.
If her name is not on it, it's not a legit Disco King Mario Event!!!!!
So look out for the fake ones and only support here for future events "COMING SOON"!!!!
Mario's daughter from Soundview Projects. She's been Zulu Queen Anita's biggest supporter. Her and Zulu Queen Anita's family ties go deep. She calls Queen Anita Auntie, and she is going to be a huge part of Disco King Mario's future events/projects. Hopefully she will be the one to carry the legacy forward into the future with her sons support, for her father.
Candy Halsey was Zulu Queen Anitas muscle and mouth piece for keeping her brothers legacy alive. Biggest supporter who kept Queen Anita's back! Because of her untimely death, Queen Anita has to carry on the torch. RIP Candy!
